How will I know if an educational toy is really educational?

With the proliferation of toys in the market posing as educational and promising to spark your kid’s talent and gifts, it’s hard to tell which is which. But don’t be fooled. Toys with real educational value are those that require active participation from your kid; those that encourage him to think, use his mind, and stretch his imagination; those that promote interaction and offer endless possible activities. A toy that does everything by itself and makes a passive observer out of your kid is not educational at all even if it recites ABC or counts 123. Examples of authentic educational toys are the classic building blocks and shape sorters.
