How do I introduce jigsaw puzzles to my child?
Jigsaw puzzles, as children’s educational toys, enhance the thinking process of the child. Initially, it would be best to present him with a wooden puzzle of a familiar object. An example would be a toy truck, train or a cartoon character. The holes or spaces in the frame will guide the child as he manipulates the pieces to form the puzzle. Forming familiar figures will make things easy for him. At first, he would try to force the pieces in the holes provided. But with adult supervision, he would complete the task through the process of trial and error. Not only will he be aware of the shapes of the pieces, but his memory will come into work as he tries to complete the puzzle. When he masters a particular figure, introduce more complicated puzzle designs with numerous pieces.
